Problem with Fillvalve and water pressure

Recently started having a problem with the fillvalve forcing water out of the toilet cover, seeminly due to a possible increase in water pressure (the water coming out of the valve is quite strong). I have tried to vary the amount of water coming into the toilet to no effect. Does anyone think there is a problem with the valve or a change in water pressure that needs to be accounted for somewhere.
Thanks

I would call your local water company and see if there has been work done (new subdivision etc) on the water lines that may have increased your pressure. Also ask your neighbors if they are having the same problems. You can buy a gauge that connects to an outside faucet to check the pressure. If it is 80# or more you will probably need to install a Pressure Reducing Valve where the main water enters the house.
If pressure is not the problem, replace the fill valve. A FliuidMaster 400A is about 6-$8 and comes with easy to read instructions. Good luck.
