sewer gas

I am stumped. We have owned our house for 20 years, raised two teenagers and had no problems with our shower. Recently however after using the shower there is an odor of sewer gas coming from the bathtub. I have not noticed this after a bath has been taken. Any help?

Sounds like you may have a clogged vent pipe. I will assume that the shower and tub drains are located in two differant places. If the shower vent is clogged, it will need to air to drain. With enough water flow, it could suck/draw the water out of the tub gooseneck, which would later allow sewer gas to come up through the tub drain.

Thanks for your input. Shower and tub are one unit. not sure how that will change your impression.

Sewer Gas - Same Issue

This may be the same issue - really bad smell from sink and I think toliet in master bath. I read the previous response, and could this be the same problem. If so I'm not sure I totally understand the suggest fix.
Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Wink

Have you check the vent pipe on the roof is it clear all the way down??? Take a hose and turn it on there see if it will go down. Dont ask why or how. Had birds drop stuff down the vent pipe also squirrels. After that we put a 1/4" mesh like cup over all vent pipes out the roof.
