Sealed overflow, no overflow, overflow?

We are choosing new sinks for our bathrooms. Do most sinks come with overflows? What are sealed overflows? Help!! Just don't know which one to pick. Thanks

Up until just a couple of years ago, overflows were required on lavatories. The standard that required the overflow was changed to not requiring an overflow. It was determined that overflow drains were used so infrequently, but moisture was always present, this allowed mold and bacteria to grow and thrive under these conditions.

BTW: This applies only to the standards in the USA, other countries are different standards and codes.
