Question Toilet Blowing Bubbles!

That's what my daughter says anyways....

Here is my problem.. any help is appreciated. I am a new home owner and am finding out the hardway how valuable that inspection would have been.

My house is a mobile home from 1971. Bought it last week and no problems until lastnight. First the stove caused CO2 problems and now the toilet is "Blowing Bubbles Mommy!"

I was taking a bath and the tub was too full so I pulled the plug for a sec to let out some water.. then the gurgling sounded and the toilet started bubbling and then the horrible HORRIBLE smell that came with the gurgling toilet noise. So I plugged up the tub again... and waited a sec and tried it again... all the while my daughter thinks the toilet is posessed and she runs away as the fumes and gurgles come back.... At one point, (mind you it is a small older mobile home,) I could feel the water going through the plumbing under my feet when I stood to look into the toilet.

Pretty please help me figure this out.... my kiddo won't go pee until the pot is no longer posessed!~

Another question.. and this is one of those myth buster questions... is that methane gas I smell and is it dangerous? Again.. we were almost killed by CO2 lastnight... I don't need the toilet trying to get us too.....

If the problem is a clogged vent line, YES, it is Methane gas. The vent is there to give draining water the air it needs to drain properly. If the vent is plugged, the sewer line will pull air from wherever it can. Usually, it is from the traps in other fixtures near the one that is draining. That is why your daughter saw bubbles in the toilet. The vent goes out through the roof and you should be able to see it. You will have to go onto the roof and look down the line for any obvious clogs (birdnests etc) and clear them by hand. Then flush the line with a garden hose. Good luck.

Still blowing bubbles...

Thanks for your response!

Lastnight we had to go to a hotel because of the methane gas. Our park maintenance man came by and tried to snake the pipes and the vents on top of the house... he didn't have much luck up there because the snake got stuck by a corner and couldn't go any further.

A friend of mine is an industrial hygenist and he tells me that after a while you can no longer smell the gas.. even though it is still in the air.. it shuts off your sense of smell to it and that is what makes it more dangerous... so we are here with all the doors open... sweating it out.. and waiting for Roto Rooter who is making an Emergency stop at our house....

If there are more suggestions before roto rooter sucks up all my money.. I would appreciate it... Thanks for your post... Hopefully I survive this house!

Update on the toilet bubbles...

3 different plumbers came... all with different points of view...
Finally the smart one decided.. "hey this isn't your problem... it is the parks.. they need to remove the trap in your pipe under your house!" GENIUS!
The trap was remove and no more bubbles!
