Shower Faucet Leaking

I recently purchased a 1980's home and have found that the shower faucet leaks -- a steady drip. The shower plumbing is a one-piece hot/cold "dial" with the faucet having a stem for shower. There is no access panel that I can find. Any advice on how to stop the leak? Bear in mind I have NO experience in plumbing repairs! Thanks!

Take a picture of the faucet and provide a link to the picture on this site or look for a brand name on the faucet trim plate.

Too vague to help with the numerous brands of single handle faucets out there.
