American Standard Smart Valve
My girlfriend has an American Standard toilet that has a Smart Valve 2000 installed (yellow thing, no apparent float). Never seen one before, don't know how they are supposed to work, but this one doesn't. It seems to not stop the fill flow completely and in some cases will not throttle down the fill flow at all.
Is there anything to try on this fill valve from a maintenance point of view? I am about to classify it as a newfangled piece of crap and replace with a Fluidmaster but thought I'd check here for suggestions before going ahead. It could be the greatest thing since sliced bread and I just don't know how it works.
Thanks for any help.

Through further googling it seems that these fill valves are known problems subject to what has been referred to as a silent recall. Call AS and they'll send you a new one. This one will apparently fail too (perhaps they should just send out a Fluidmaster as relacement).
In goes a reliable Fliudmaster. Thanks to all those who looked.
