Slow Flushing Toilets because they're old???

I had to call a plumber out after fixing all the problems that I knew of in the toilets but I still can't get them to work. The plumber was going to auger out the whole toilet (both of them) for $250 but then he said getting new toilets would fix this. Is this a true problem or is he just blowing smoke up my you know where?

malachidamighty, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
You didn't really say WHAT the problems were. You can rent (or even buy) a closet auger for WAY less than the price quoted. It's a 10 minute, at best ,job to do the work. If you would reply back and describe the problems you are having and what you have already done, we should be able to help you solve the problems. Good luck.

Hello, These are a couple of possible reasons for the problem you
are having.
Pour a bucket into the toilet bowl. Does it flush?
If no plunge it or get a bowl auger to clear it.
If it flushes the problem may be a lime build up in the bowl.
Clear all the holes in the toilet bowl under the rim and the jet
in the bottom of the toilet. You can use a wire or small screw driver.
I use muratic acid. I pour the acid into the overflow tube in the tank.
I use about a half gallon.Let it set for about a half hour then flush.
Muratic acid is used in swimming pools to balance the PH.
I get it at Home Depot.
Good Luck Woodbutcher

The Problems

Okay, so here's the deal. One toilet will flush but not on a regular basis. The bowl doesn't empty but it doesn't overflow either. It's as though there's something keeping the water from flowing freely. I have already cleared the jets, used the closet auger and the plumbers helper. Nothing works. The other won't clear at all. You push the handle, the water spins but it doesn't go anywhere. Its actually unsanitary and I'm afraid of what's building up in there. I've poured liquid plumber down both but that didn't help either. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I was RIGHT!!!!

After having to fight with the landlord about sending in a plumber, he finally let this warranty company he works with come in. They replaced the toilets as there was a crack in the tank around back that was leaking the water into the bowl causing the tank not to be full enough to flush. I don't want to rub this in but dammit I was right and its not fair that just because I'm younger than 40 no one respects my opinion.

After you turn 60....no one will respect it either. There is only a small range of ages where you know everything. When you get there....enjoy it as it doesn't last long. Good luck in the future.
