Plumbers putty vs silicone? Does anyone know

why plumbers putty should not be used on granite(kitchen sink)? We are installing the drains in our granite composite sink, the putty says do not use on granite, use silicone instead.

Plumber's putty has an oil base to it which a porous material will draw out and become discolored. Granite is just 1 surface you should not use plumber's putty with.
