toilet leak
Hi every one.
I've just joined & I got a toilet problem.
We just hired someone to tile our floors on the main floor & the bathroom. He removed the toilet to do this & I'm sure he put a wax seal on again.Since then there is a gush of water coming down when we flush, probaby the drain pipe to the basement. It doesn't leak otherwise & does't leak around the toilet.
I don't want to call him back again if it's not his fault or an easy fix.
Thanks for any help.
Dave

Did he raise the toilet flange after tiling? If he left it flush with the original subfloor, you probably have a poor seal at the wax ring. The flange should be flush with the finished floor.....if not... you can buy extended wax rings that will help "take up the slack" so to speak.....

Take a shot... for less than $3.00 you can buy the ring..... another $2.79 for caulking......... a little physical labor to remove the toilet (don't crack it - and clean up the present caulking well).... So, for less than $6.00 - maybe, just maybe you can fix your friend's "screw up"... (have to assume it was a friend or you would be screaming bloody murder at the plumbing company)

If the tile is more than 1/4" thick, he should have put a flange extender on top of the existing flange and screwed it to the floor. This would have made a regular wax seal work. Good luck.
