How do you measure the roughin for toilet

I am not sure how to measure the size of my toilet for roughin. If I am measuring on the bottom of the toilet from the front lip to the center of the waste hole is 12" . does that mean i have a 12" toilet? I have read about different size toilets, such as 10" 12" and 14" Thanks in advance for your help. .

Rough in is the measurement from the wall studs (before drywall) to the center of the drain pipe. Typical rough in (standard) is 12 1/2 inches. Toilets are made for lesser distances if necessary. Factors are the toilet itself as well as the placement of the tank on the unit.
