how much space need inside the wall for plumbing for tub & shower taps etc?
Hubby and I are going to have a new tub installed in our bathroom -- existing one is getting pretty worn. The current tub is really small -- 32" by 60" - and we think we can put in a longer tub because there is 12" between the end of the tub and the outside wall of the bathroom. We would sure have a lot more options if we could go with a 67" tub rather than a 60" tub! What we do not know, though, is how much space is required inside the wall for all the pipes etc. for the faucets and shower connections. Is the standard space inside a wall (3 1/2" or so) sufficient? Or does a standard installation require more than that?

The previous post is correct - but don't get too nervous about it too quickly. I have a 12 inch space between my tub and bathwalls also.... I did it that way because all I wanted was a 60inch tub and had 72inches between the walls - so I built it out. The 12 inches is empty space.
There may be vents/drains/plumbing/etc., inside that space... but you won't know until you do some "digging"..
Good luck - hope you can get the big tub....
