Unhappy Roll Ball Drain in Tub Help!??!

Hi we have a (I think it is called) Rollball Drain in our tub. Where to close your drain you just push down on it or pull up on it to open it. Question is how do we use a plunger on this drain to unclog it? I know the knob on the top unscrews but after that I am lost at how to remove the lid so that when I plung the lid doesn't close down. If ya know what to do please help Thank you for your time!

If it's the same typ we have you unscrew the top and then unscrew the post in the center leaving you with an open drain. If you are going to use a plunger, don't forget you will need to seal off the tub overflow in order to achieve results. Slow tub drains are much easier cleaned out with a snake, which are not very expensive. You can run the sanke down the overflow after removing the trim plate/cover and won't have to mess with the drain.

Thanks

I will try that... We don't have a overflow that I know of tho. All there is, is a Drain, a showerhead, a water faucet, and the water one and off switch... There is a round circle in the tub that is screwed in where the old runoff was. So I am figureing I don't need to clog the runoff to plunge? Oh and thanx I will look into getting a snake! Thanx again!

If the overflow plate is like mine, it looks like a solid metal plate but there is actually a cut-out along the bottom edge allowing water to enter the drain if it reaches that level.

Look up at the bottom of the plate.

If you see a gap, you need to plug that while you plunge.

Ditto. I would be really surprised if you didn't find an opening on that plate to allow overflow.
