Talking Bath tub drain question

We are remodeling a bathroom and are having trouble connecting the drain after the tub is installed. We turn the drain fixture into the pipe fitting with the tool but it does not want to get tight enough but I don't want to brake the tub. Does anyone have any pointers on this one?

Thanks Jim

There is normally a rubber gasket under the drain hole between the tub and the pipe and then plumbers putty on the bottom of the flange of the drain connector. The gasket should pull up against the bottom of the tub and the plumbers putty should seal the top part of the drain. Good luck.
