Tub drain will not stay down - pops back up

We have an attached tub drain stopper - the kind that you push down and it should seal and stay down to fill the tub. When I push it, however, it pops halfway back up, so I can't fill the tub. Any suggestions on how to fix it and keep it down and, therefore, sealed? Thank you in advance!

Lucy's House, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
It may be hair or a build-up of soap that is preventing the stopper from "catching" and staying down. You may want to try pouring boiling water down the drain while you push the stopper down and release it several times. Please use something other than your fingers to do this. If that doesn't work, it may be worn out and need replacing. Good luck.
