Removing Shower/tub handles

I have a slow leak from my hot water pipe in my tub. I've got a 2 handle setup, hot and cold. Trying to get to the stems, I'm having a problem removing the handles, the end caps do not come off to remove the handles, it looks like it is a compression setup from what I can see on the backside of the handle, any ideas of getting them off so I can get to the stems?

Do you know the brand name of your faucet? Most handles have screws that hold them onto the stems.

I do not know who the manufacturer is, I've checked for set screws but didn't see them, as I said there are no end caps, it looks like a solid cross that is attached to the stem

Look closely at the center of the "cross" of the handle. It might be a cap. Try to pop it off, carefully, with a knife blade.
If that doesn't help, upload a photo or two.

thanks all, got it, I had to use a little force and a dremel tool , it was a screw on cap that had corroded on.
