bathfitter?

Anybody used a bathfitter to cover up entire tub/wall as opposed to pulling old tiles off, etc. Looking for relatively inexpensive way to clean up my outdated bathroom. Wondering if anybody had anything good or bad to say about it? Thanks

i had a friend who looked into bathfitters, and he found out it was cheaper just to redo the whole bathroom with new tiles...this is just what i have heard..maybe get an estimate from bathfitter and a regular contractor and see how much cheaper it is..good luck

Just to put in my .02$ as well. I went down the same road at one point and came to the following conclusion. If you are going to hire a contractor to put in a new tub/surround then Bathfitters (or any of the similar companies) may be a route to take. However if you are willing to handle everything yourself you would save a ton of money. For a basic tub overlay I was quoted approx $1800! I told the guy I could put in an entirely new tub surround myself and save a bunch of money but he still didn't budge on the price.
Good luck!

Tub Surrounds

I'm always concerned when people want to "mask" a problem.

I'd be concerned about mold, etc. growing between the tub and the overlay.

Bathfitters are NOT inexpensive. I have seen a few posts here complaining about the final results. Air gaps in the tub area, leaks around the drains etc. I have to think that this is a bad idea overall. Good luck.

positive result

We had an acrylic overlay on a steel tub at our last house. There was some give between overlay and old tub, but hardly noticiable (I would estimate less than 1/16"). Job was completed for about $500. No leaks at drain. It was a good option for us given the time we expected to stay in the house. We moved recently and I have since done a tearout and replacement of tub and surrounding tile / plumbing on the new place. It's a ton of work, but It looks good and thus far works well.
