Question installing tubs

do i need a open wall to install bathtub?

davidn123, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
If this is a new installation in an existing room, yes. Tubs have flanges on them that are covered by the wall material (usually greenboard unless installing tile). The wall material allows any penetration of moisture to go into the tub and not down the outside area. You also need room to work when installing a tub. Something else to think about is installing an access door so that you can work on any future problems should they occur. (leaks mainly) Good luck.
