Leveling a castiron tub
I saw that you had a post on putting in a new tub, but we are getting ready to remodel a 19 year old bathroom. One of the first things we noticed after buying the house is the bathtub looks out of kilter. What is the best and easiest way to level an existing castiron tub? We were told if we jacked it up it would mess up the drain. This is our first time to tile and remodel a bathroom so I'm a lot nervous.

LisainKC, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Most tubs have a board across the back side (wall side) that is set level before the tub is installed. You will have to disconnect the piping before moving the tub and then make up any differences in pipe length after leveling it. Good luck.

No. The piping has a nut that holds it at the drain. You may be able to unscrew the drain from the piping from inside the tub. You will still need access to under the tub to do whatever you have to do to get the pipes reconnected at the proper distance. If you decide to call a plumber, you can either cut the access for him ahead of time or pay his hourly rate for cutting it. If the tub butts up to a closet wall, I would purchase an access door and cut the opening, in the closet, that size so when you are finished you can install it for any future problems.

One more thing. Don't let your eyes cause you alot of trouble. Place a level along the back of the tub just to make sure it is level. Also lay your level along the rim under the faucet to check that direction. Of course if it is out of level, then you have a good diy project ahead. Post back if we can help further.
