Piping Sizing Problem (Faucet)

I have just installed a new single lever bath/shower valve. When I turn on the water to the tub spout, water comes out of the shower head without engaging the diverter on the tub spout. Anyone got any ideas??

If you used CPVC piping then this is most likely the problem. Moen and Delta faucets both recommend copper piping for the tubing to the shower head and tub spout.

Hey, just curious but why would that make a difference? Thanks in advance.

Those valves are designed for a certain amount of flow dictated by the inside diameter of the piping between the shower head and valve, valve and tub spout.
