Red face Whirlpool Tub Fixture Update - Paint?

We have a Jetta whirlpool tub. We would like to replace the faucet spout and handles as part of sprucing up the entire bathroom...they are mounted on the tub deck. How do I do this without taking all the tile off the side of the tub so I can get underneath? Alternatively can I spray paint these fixtures (they are bright gold) and if so I do I prep them? Thanks

The tile you are referring to should be in a panel that is removeable for maintenance, although I have seen tubs without them. No idea how they planned on maintenance.
The controls most likely would not look good painted, as the paint will never stay on. If they are quality units, they can be replated the color you want, but by the time you find someone to do it, remove them and replace them, buying a new set would be more in line. Check for a removeable panel before you go tearing into the tile, though.

A panel would be great, but there isn't one. That's my dilema. Didn't notice when I bought the house a few months ago. Obviously doesn't meet code, but not much I can do about that no. Simple faucet replacement turning into big job. Don't know what to do at this point. Afraid when I rip the tile off I'll then have to cut out the cement board under the tile.....before you know it I'll have the whole darn thing apart and worse yet have to put it back together. ughhh

Basis question. Are the valves so ugly that you want to risk all that work to change them out. You only see them once a day, and they apparently work well. Just doing a reality check.

I agree. Disproportionate amount of work to benefit ratio. You know how it goes when redecorating a bathroom. I also have to take the shower apart to replace the gold frame work with brushed nickel. Resorting to special textured waterproof paint on tub fixtures I guess. I know it won't last, but if it buys me a year I'll take it......tub gets used once a week.
