leaky toilet

i know there are a million threads on it - but none i see with my issue. My tiolet used to leak when i flushed it 2 times or more - if i flushed it once i assume there was such a small leak it didnt come through the tile, but with 2 flushes you can see the water come from under the toilet. Now the issue is - i read somewhere that tightening the 2 screws that hold the toilet down could fix the problem. I did that, and it doesnt leak no more. Question is did it really fix the leak? Or maybe its just leaking under the floor now into my downstairs neighbors ceiling? im assuming it worked. Thanks!

Tightening those two bolts puts a little more pressure on the wax seal. This MAY have fixed the leak. Don't tighten them too much or you could break the bowl. I do not think I would trust "maybe" fixed. Wax seals are cheap and it can be installed in under an hour. Good luck.

Being a renter, I would not attempt a repair. Should something go wrong, you end up paying for it. I cannot imagine a toilet without a shut-off valve. Unless you have a Sloan valve (commercial toilet), then the shut-off screw is covered with a cap.
