Metal plug blocked in sink

Hi,

any advice would be urgently appreciated. Sorry about my lack of plumbing vocabulary or knowledge but I've got one of these mechanical(?) metal plugs which you bring up and down by pushing a lever(?) down or pulling it up just behind the taps and the plug has become blocked and won't come out. I think the bottom of it has fallen off inside the pipe so it won't work anymore. I simply want to know if there's any way I can get the plug out by attaching something to the top and trying to pull it out that way as I can't get a knife or a screwdriver to it. Would a plunger work at all in this situation? I've managed to get all the water out of the sink.

Thanks

Under the sink, look around behind the drain where the rod attaches to the lever and goes into the drain. Where it attaches to the drain is a retaining nut. Remove this nut and the rod will come out of the drain. You can stick a screwdriver in there and lift up on the bottom of the stopper and grab it from above.

Either the stopper has corroded or the rod has correded or come loose from the lever. When you get under the sink you can see if the rod has come loose from the lever. If it has simply re-connect it.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks so much for your advice.

Managed to unscrew the U-bend and get the plug out using a tape measure by pushing it up. The bottom half of the plug as I suspected had fallen into the U-bend and I got that out too.
