another shower diverter question...

Bought my house in Nov. 05. Shower has worked fine until recently. When diverter is engaged, shower will work for a few minutes, then shuts off completely. No water runs from the faucet or the shower head. If the diverter is shut off, the water comes back out of the faucet. If the diverter is pulled up only partially, where water is still coming out of the faucet, the shower will work w/o shutting off. Is the problem the diverter or the shower head? Is it both? Is it neither? I'll be taking things apart this weekend to see if I can "do it myself"...any advice on where to begin is appreciated!

Diverter

It's the diverter that's causing the problem. If you can get to the back of the tub, (sometime there is a wood panel there for access) you can adjust the linkage on the diverter. Sounds like the linkage has slip down or damaged.

Sometime they rust out.
