info on whirlpool tub
I saw at HD, there is a standard size (60"x32") whirlpool tub made by american standard. does anyone have thoughts about installing or using this. we could not go larger due to size of bathroom

Chris: quite often the constraints of installing a new tub or shower is the space available in the bathroom. Don't try to get the largest you can find, as your ability to get it through the door will be the determining factor. The size you mention is probably the best size to go with. Of course you may have to frame up one end, since it will be unfinished. Are you removing an existing tub in order to put this one in? Are the walls presently tiled? Is there a shower associated with the old tub?

Thanks for the reply. we are planning to gut the bathroom and start over. we just bought this house and it came with very old/ugly bathroom. the tub that is in now measures 60x31, measured to the glued on plastic tub surround, so i'm thinking that tub is really 32" wide. the overall size of bathroom is about 5' x 6'.

Gutting it out is the best way to go, and I commend you on your aggressiveness. Be aware, however, you will not get a 60" tub in a bathroom that only measures 60", without taking studs out of a wall on the end where the tub will go (and I am assuming it will go on the short end). If you are inclined to install it on the long wall, then forget what I just wrote; you'll be ok, as long as your doorway will accommodate the tub.
