Cool Replacing standard bathtub with jacuzzi tub

We are in the process of buying a new house that is currently under
construction. We wanted the builder to replace a regular size standard tub
that is already set in master bath and put a jacuzzi tub instead. At first,
he agreed to it, but now he is saying that switching tubs could jeopardize the
integrity of the foundation of the house??? I personally think that it is
going to cost him more than he anticipated and it means he probably wont be
able to reuse the standard tub already in place. Should we push to get it
done or is it possible to experience problems in switching out the tubs?

Did he originally agree to change out the tub at no charge? Did you agree to a nominal charge over and above the additional cost of the jetted tub?

You may ask what it would cost to make the necessary changes to accommodate the jetted tub. If the charge sounds reasonable then I suggest that you pay it. If it is really an issue with the house foundation no amount of money will be enough.

Wink

Yes, we did pay an upgrade fee for the tub that he did agree to put in. We did find out after talking to the builder that it wasn't getting the new tub in, it was getting the old one out. He was trying to avoid having to cut old tub in half and trashing it. It won't fit out the door in one piece, so that is why he mentioned going through a wall. Anyway, the tub he is trying to salvage is only about $400 in value, not nearly the trouble or price it would cost to take out a wall. He agreed to stick to the contract and replace the tub. He also said it wasn't any problem with the new tub being put in. So we should be back on track.

I'm glad you were able to work it out.
