Tub discoloration

Our basement drain was clogged last night. I poured in some drain cleaner in it and it slowly unclogged. The weird thing is our upstairs tub seemed be discolored from the fumes. I poured a large amount of water down the drain to wash it out. We seemed to get the tub clean with some bleach last night but this morning it was discolored again. Any recommendations?

I think you are SOL. I advise people all the time on mechanical cleanout only and not to use the cheap drain cleaners as they are pretty much worthless. And the good stuff - the acid stuff sold in plastic bags with skull and crossbones warning and which smokes when you pour it in, and which can stink you out of your house, can discolor fiberglass tubs, permanently. (This is a presumption only on my part as I have come across fiberglass tubs that are only stained permanently along the bottom 3 inches or so, and no cleaner will remove this and I presume that is what tenants did.)
