How to replace Air Switch in a whirlpool

My Kohler 1146 whirlpool had the 'Push Button' missing on the air switch. I have received a new air switch kit from Kohler(Escutcheon, button, base, tube etc.). However the instructions that come with the replacement part are not really helping me in this 'do-it-yourself' project.
The instructions ask to pryoff the escutcheon with a flat-blade screwdriver and remove and discard the escutcheon, button and spring. I think I have been able to pryoff the escutcheon. Next I need to pull off the base with pliers from the base - but I have not been able to do that.
Does anyone have any tips with regards to replacing this air switch?

Welcome to the forums! If you have access from beneath the rim, the switch will probably be held on with a spanner nut, and will need to be loosened first. Pull the air hose off first and tape it where you can find it later.
