toilet flapper

O.K. here is the problem. We just replaced the flapper and float in our toilet. Now, in order to flush, you must hold down the handle until it is finished. I really don't have time for that. What can the reason be???? We have adjusted the chain up and down, to no avail. Please help!!!

You could have (and maybe did) bought an adjustable flapper. Look to see if there are numbers on top of it. If so, turn it to a different number to see if it works better. Usually shortening the chain to where it is just under taut will allow it to flush properly. Also make sure the actuator bar on the handle is facing parallel to the floor. Report back.
