Bathtub Pressure Problem

1. Problem: Upstairs bathtub, when I turn the water on it comes out with great pressure for a few seconds. This is true for both hot and cold water, and then drops to almost no pressure and with reduced pressure in the house. (Secondary problem is on occasion have some dark silt come through the pipes into the tub.)

2. Background:

a. 10 year old home, no recent changes to plumbing.

b. Problem started recently

c. The tub is just a tub (no shower diverter) , seperate handles for hot and cold.

d. Other upstairs tub and seperate shower work fine.

e. No apparent leaks, the tub has an access panel and I have looked in and don't see any leaks by the faucet or handles.

3. Ideas?

Rich: welcome to the forums! Secondary or not, silt should not be coming from your supply lines. Since you have had this problem in the past, and on occasion, turn off the water to the house and pull the shower control valves and inspect them for crud. Let us know what you find.
