shower temperature change

Why would my shower temperature get colder periodically even though no other water in the house is turned on?

What type shower valve do you have: brand, model, etc. Single handle, double handle, diverter on spout, diverter on valve? Is your hot water valve completely open coming out of the water heater?

Shower

It is a single handle Moen. It is a shower only so there is no diverter valve. The valve out of the water heater is all of the way open. This happens even though no other water valve in the house is opened.

How old is the water heater? Gas or electric? How long since you drained it? If electric, element could be going bad. Hard water could mean calcium build up in bottom and it takes too long to heat through the calcification. How long since you cleaned the shower head to remove mineral deposits?

It is a gas water heater. The shower head has been cleaned. What doesn't make sense is the water cools for a few seconds then comes right back up to the normal temp. It is not getting cooler and staying there. It will repeat this cycle every couple of minutes.
