faucet handle keeps turning
On a 2-handle bathroom sink faucet that is about 3 yrs old, the hot water handle continues to turn at the position that it used to be shut off. We turn on faucet, it runs;turn it to "off" position, it shuts off & then if it's turned in that same direction, will come back on again. I believe it's a cartridge faucet)
What's wrong??
Thanks so much for any help.

Sue - I'm not a plumber, but I have a couple of faucets that have a plastic piece that limits the range of the handle. The one for my shower is adjustable to allow a greater or lesser temperature range. It is meshed with the valve stem and integral stops keep the handle from overturning.
Try some disassembly and see what you have. If you have the brand or model number you can go to the manufacturer's web site for info.
