Cold water in tub stopped...then trickled

We have a Moentrol setup in our tub/shower. A few weeks ago, no cold water came out (when we rotated the knob to the right).

Last week, the cold water began to trickle out.

Any ideas?

We moved into the house several months ago, and haven't had any problems in the tub until recently.

Also, what's the best tool to adjust/remove the balancing spool? A big screwdriver?

Thx,

Curt

That is a pressure balance faucet. If the pressure on one side drops, it will shut down the other side to compensate, so not scalding or freezing. It sounds like the valve has a problem or there is debris blocking a port. The valve should pull out once you get the screws/clips out, but there is a simple puller available at most home/hardware stores for stubborn Moen valves.
