damaged finish on sink

Hi all-
Sometime ago my husband got a little overenthusiastic with the drain cleaner, with the result that the finish of the sink around the drain was damaged. The white sink now has a yellow discoloured area where the surface finish was dissolved. Is there any way to repair this?

What type sink, porcelain, solid surface, etc. Your can try some Comet w/bleach. Mix a slurry and let it sit a bit, rub it around, but DON'T scrub hard.

This can probably be refinished, but might be simpler to replace - we had someone out to repair about two square inches of chips in a tub recently and the bill was $100.
