crack in cultured marble tub

I have a 12 year old cultured marble tub that has developed a crack about 2-3 inches above the bottom. It's about 3 inches long but I can see a "seam" on each end where it looks like its going to crack some more (almost like its separating). Marble and tile companies that I've contacted have said this cannot be repaired. Is this true? Is there any sort of repair, even if it is visible, that I can do (i.e. caulk, etc.)?

Because of the flex in the tub that caused it to crack, anything that you put in the crack would likely not provide a long-term solution. You can try:

Most manufacturers recommend installing a mortar base for support of tub and shower bases. This assures a solid bottom with support and eliminates the potential for flexing and cracks. Most patch materials tend to make a tub look patched if DIY. There is no guarantee that a patch will be successful, as the tub will continue to flex.
