Leak from tank to bowl when flushing

Replaced the flapper unit. Now there is a rush of water from the toilet where tank meets bowl, which expels to the floor.

If I "regulate" the flush so that water drains from tank gradually, there is no water overflow.

The flange on the new flatter assembly seems to be a longer than on the original. Could an extra 1/8" or so of flange be causing the backflow?

Any help appreciated.

If you changed the flush valveassembly, it sounds like you left the seal off the bottom of the flush valve. If you just changed the flapper it self, you may have damaged or broken the seal under the tank.

Things like that happen.
Good that you found it...and repaired it!
