Installing waterproof membrane
I'm installing a tile-floored shower. I have ABS drain pipe and have purchased a new shower drain assembly. The question I have is what type of adhesive/solvent I use to adhere the membrane to the bottom flange of the drain assembly. I bought some Oatey X15, but not sure that is correct. Do I use a PVC solvent or just stick with a 100% silicone caulk? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks - I have been doing a lot of searching on this. I have a good friend that lays tile, but hasn't come across an ABS drain. He always glues the membrane to the lower flange with PVC cement (right or wrong). My drain is an Oatey 42238.
Here's what the Oatey site says "4. Before installing the pan liner remove the tape from the drain base and apply a 1/4"-3/8" bead of 100% silicone caulk around the upper surface of the drain base approximately 1" in from the outside edge. This will provide a seal between the underside of the pan liner and the drain base surface. Screw he clamping ring bolts into the drain base to 2-3 thread depth. Before the caulk dries lay the premeasured pan liner on the floor and over the drain body. At the top of each bolt slit an “X” so the pan liner slides over the bolts and down to the drain base surface. Press pan liner firmly into place to ensure a seal between the drain base and the bottom surface of the pan liner.

Always follow the manufacturers instructions. I'm not sure why you are questioning this, the instructions are clear.
