Only Hot Water in Shower

I appear to have a valve problem. Our guest bathroom doesn't get used very often. Our niece spent the night and when she tried to use the shower, it was scalding hot. The shower faucet is a Moen. I tried taking off the handle to see if I could easily fix the problem, but I got to a point where it appears I cannot get any further. Of course, there is no access to the plumbing. On the other side of the shower is a vanity.

Has anyone else experienced this? I was hoping this was going to be a simple job, but fear the worst.

It sounds like some sediment is clogging things. Pull the valve out and check it. Someone else will chime in but if I remember correctly you have to pull up on the brass clip before removing the valve. The valve may need to be pulled out using a pair of pliars but it pulls straight out there are no threads. The Moan web site may help.
