Water spraying out of toilet??

Earlier this evening I went into my bathroom and when I opened the lid I could have sworn that I just heard water splash back into the toilet (immediately upon uponing the lid). The bottom of the lid looked like it was sprayed with water.... but it didnt' make sense to me how this happened.

An hour later my wife goes into her bathroom and comes out saying "it looks like there's water that was sprayed up against the bottom of the lid".
So then I was a bit concerned.... this happened in two separate bathrooms in our house.

I went downstairs and checked the septic lines and it looks fine... there's no water dripping from either. So now I'm not certain what could have caused this to happen.

Thanks for any help!!

The fill valves are shot. This happens. Nothing lasts forever.

Replace with this. You can get at your local home store.

Thank you greatly for the response, lawrosa!!

How odd that this happened to both on the same day.

Could happen. Do you have the old ball style in the toilets???? maybe you did not notice the one untill you saw the other.
