Small rust spot on bottom of tub

Our old bathtub has a small spot on the bottom of the tub about 1/8" in size where the finish was apparently chipped at some point in time.
The tub is either steel or cast iron, don't know which.
The spot is showing some rust.
Is there anything we can do to repair this for the time being?

We hire someone to do this kind of work - not cheap

Tub glazer or refinisher

You can repair a small area like you describe. Remove all the rust and recoat the area with a porcelain touch up product like Porc A Fix.

A careful repair will be nearly invisible.
