tub sizing question

I have a fiberglass tub and surround in the sole bathroom of my 30 year old house.. it really needs to go. Measuring from wall to wall, I get a measurement of 58.75 inches. All the new tubs are 60'' in length. Should I deduct the thickness of the sheetrock to get the stud to stud length? In other words, a new tub would be installed directly against the studs, correct, not against the sheetrock, meaning a replacment tub will fit? Hope my question makes sense, thanks.

Hi.

Yes you are correct. Stud to stud.

Yes on the stud to stud, but no on the fit. You are still 1/4" too narrow. Look for a replacement tub/shower unit that is 59" long. They are out there, although I have never had to get one. I just googled "59" tub" and came up with a bunch.
