Trouble Taking off old part to put on new one underneath bathroom sink.

I am having trouble taking the part underneath the sink off. I am using the tool in the picture. Should I be using a different tool? I am turning it counterclock wise and I counted the threads and it still the same amount of threads. What do I need to do to take it off?

Thanks for your help!

Likely the entire drain assy is turning...watch it carefully as you turn the nut...I bet the threads turn as well. You need to hold down through the top using needle nose pliers in the crossed bars in the drain. They make a tool...but the pliers work.

If not....and the nut is actually turning (not just pliers slipping...which from the condition of the nut is possible)..the threads have corroded and the nut will probably need to be cut off.
