Question Do I have to shut off the water to remove install vessel sinks in my bathroom?

I'm a new DIYer trying to remove 2 vessel sinks and replace them with new ones. All of the instructions I've found online state to first turn off the water. Is this just a precaution or will water come spewing out when I try to remove it? (There's no shut off valve under the cabinet). I don't have the strength needed to turn it off at the curb. The faucets are wall mounted so I don't need to remove them.

Thanks in advance!

If you are not going to disturb the supply plumbing then you do not have to turn off the water.

There will be water in that U-shaped piece of pipe (called a P-trap) connected to the drain though, it won't spew but it will spill... you need a bucket under it.

That statement is there for the benefit of the manufacturer. It removes one of the grounds for a lawsuit by people unable or unwilling to accept responsibility for their own actions..

True that Doug, in this case though I think it is because those instructions are assuming that the faucets are mounted on the sink deck... in which case you would most definitely HAVE TO turn off the water before removing the sink!
