I have an older tiled shower, and the screws for the drain strainer were completely rusted. I tried several options, even using a special drill bit for stuck screws, and the only option I had was to drill the screw heads off. I cannot get the rest of the screw out, so I bought a drain strainer by Oatey that is supposed to clip into the drain. It says it is universal but it doesn't clip into my drain. I was wondering if it is possible to use an adhesive around the strainer to secure it from sliding around on the shower floor. We are planning on doing a shower reno next year, so this will be only semi-permanent.

Clear silicone adhesive caulk will work. Clean the surface of the shower pan with denatured alcohol to improve bonding strength.
