I replaced the whole cartridge on the center(shower) handle. It is a screw (rotate counter clockwise to turn on shower) type but when I rotate to turn on shower most of the water comes out of the tub fill spout not shower head.?????

No, the type of stem (cartridge) that this has is like a regular faucet that you screw in the outer nut until it seats on a nylon (plastic) ring. Then the inner stem that has a rubber washer screwed to the end seals to a metal seat screwed into the valve body. When you turn the handle to the right it seats and shuts off flow to shower head The flow all comes out of the tub spout.. Then when you rotate counter clock wise it unseats and when fully rotated counter clock wise it backseats to a metal tapered seat. There are openings in the sides of the outer nut body past the metal backseat. When this is done ,most of the flow is still coming out of the tub spout. I dont know why.Any ideas??

OK.
This kit right? Did you get the right kit, because I believe the gerber will work also but the center stem is a different length.
Also sometimes when new you need to give some ummphhh to get the tub spout to stop.

Gotter done!!! Thanks for all of your help, especially the pic it shows what was missing in the set I bought --the nylon washer between the metal backseat on the stem and the body.Makes a big difference.
