Could be this one.
Eljer Kitchen Faucet With Side Spray Kit - Locke Plumbing
Or this one.
Eljer Rebuild KIT - Locke Plumbing
Personally if I remember right there is no difference. You only have a shower and no tub. I dont think there is s diverter mechinism in the cart.
I will look around more later on. ( I had this same issue 1 or 2 years ago with this cart and cant remember the outcome.)
There should be a part # on the cart itself.

Mike, the OP's shower control looks to be a lift and rotate type. Would it take the same type cartridge as the one you have links to? Non plumber comment, naturally.

OK, I was thinking you were talking about one of the cold-to-hot rotating valves. Thanks for the info. Old Delta's or Moen's had the lever, but the cartridge was in essence a pull and turn, but the lever did that for you.

I believe it is actually a lift and turn like a kitchen faucet. That's probably why the Eljers went out in the 60's I believe. But you know Larry, I cant be sure. You just don't find these in the field anymore.

You are correct it is a lift and rotate type cartridge. I checked further and found Eljer merged with American Standard.
American Standard Brands was formed in February, 2008 from the merger of 3 companies: American Standard Americas, Crane Plumbing, and Eljer.
Called American Standard with the partial information provided, although the sales person was very accommodating she was going to order me a part sight unseen based on my unverified information.
This would be OK if I did not have to drive 4 hours to do the repair and back.
The cartridge itself must be fairly modern the serrated piece I believe is to moderate the hot water temperature. Thank you all for your response, still searching
PS
I was informed by American Standard the catalogue only dates back to 1987. Sent photos to sales. I will follow up on thier response.

I may have the answer here but need input
on the photo listed below. I do not want to
start ripping down walls, cutting pipe,
soldering new pipe, etc. Not to mention the
cabin is over 100 years old and good
tinder. I am of the opinion by what I see
that I could strip and replace the old
cartridge. If I recall the rough in
includes the faucet.
Am I correct in my assumption?

Yes. Where did you get that pic?
And in-case the pic disappears its a Eljer valve body with cartridge # 3170501. Its a rough only which means no trim plates. I would buy two or three if they are cheap enough.

As a last resort I went to E-Bay
Thank you for your help, all have helped me find a way to hopefully solve my problem. Not to mention the history lesson in searching Eljer.

Just replaced my Eljer shower cartridge circa 2000
Danco VA-4 88197 works just fine. No mention of Eljer on the package, says it's for Valley, Sears, and Aqualine from 10-1986. Got it at Home Depot for $12.97 The old one may come apart when removing it like in the photo.
