Black sediment in toilet and toilet tank

I have a ground floor toilet that has accumulated a bunch of black sediment inside the tank (mostly at the water line) which then flushes into the bowl. and leaves black specks all over the toilet. It is even hard to scrub off. Any ideas what this stuff is and where it is coming from? I have two other toilets upstairs that don't have this problem at all.

Welcome to the forums!

Seems like I had a supply line once that the chlorine in the water degraded on the inside - it did the same thing...... but I'm a painter and only fool with plumbing when I have to. The guys that know more will chime in later
