Bathroom Lav Drain Leak in NEW DRAIN

I installed a new faucet and drain in my bathroom sink. The threaded ring that holds the drain assembly to the sink (the one that you turn around the drain on the underside of the sink) is leaking between the thread and the ring.

What can I do to fix this?

TIA!

P.S. I was thinking about taking some plumber's putty and putting it in the threads and then twisting the ring up around it.

Is this a bad idea? Or would this work?

First, make sure you installed your drain correctly. Did it come with any rubber washers?

If you feel the need to play with the putty remove the drain and put your plumbers putty under the flange of the drain. It should squish out inside the sink. Just pick off what squishes out. Do not put it on the threads protruding below the sink.

1) Yes it came with rubber washers and I did put them in.

2) There doesn't seem to be any water leaking between the drain and the sink. I got under there and watched water droplets appear below that ring at the threads. It's coming out through the threads.

Do you have a rubber washer on the bottom side between the sink and nut?

Remove the flange and re putty. With the jam nut lowered and gasket put teflon paste around gasket and the threads threads above it. Re install the flange and tighten as you would...

I have never had a leak using this method

Thanks Mike. I'll stop at the store after work tomorrow and pick some up.

Great job... Glad it worked out...

Funny I just did two vanity's today and I took a pic of that process to have in my archives...

Teflon paste around washer and threads. Note nut all the way down...
