No Hot Water In Shower - Had It Before

We have no hot water in our shower, but had it before.

It seems like the faucet knob has turned, so that when I push it all the way toward hot it doesn't engage the hot water but the physical construction of the knob stops it. Also, the H and C letter on the faceplate doesn't line up with the knob position.

The faucet does unscrew. See photo.

How do I fix this? There is no way to get behind the faucet. It is walled off.

Next to the tub is the sink which does have hot and cold water.

It would help a lot if you could say at least what brand faucet you have.

Most modern bath faucets have a mechanism to limit the maximum hot temperature to prevent scalding. Remove the handle (there may be a small hole with a allen head set screw or you may have to remove a cap on the handle) and you might find that your's has slipped or broken. It's also possible the cartridge has broken.

Looks like a Kohler... possibly the balance spool has failed and is the reason of no hot water...

Also as dane states the scald protector may have broke..

You will need to remove the handle to inspect.,...

Thanks for your replies.

Yes, it is a Kohler.

I unscrewed the handle and included photos of the mechanism. One straight on, one from the left and one from the right.

Also, I'm including a video. My description before wasn't entirely accurate.

In the video you will see the faucet in off position, at cold position, at hot position then at maximum position.

When the faucet is in maximum position the water flow slows down and gets very hot.

When the faucet is in Hot or Cold position the water flow is strong. In the Hot position the water is warm but not hot enough for a bath.

Hello. Happy Thanksgiving.

I took the shower handle off but not sure what I'm looking at. Any thoughts would be very helpful.

Thanks

Your balance spool needs to be replaced...Kohler parts are very expensive so be prepared...

The cartridge part is good but to get to the spool you need to take it all apart..

I would replace the cartridge too while your in there but thats up to you...

Im not sure what one you have...

It may be this. ( Notice the spool next to the cart)

Kohler - GP76851

Or this. 8500

Kohler - 85500 High Flow Cartridge

Here is the spool ..

Kohler - 1005215

Hope this helps.. You should find this parts at your local Ferguson....

You know there are several models that tyou really need to take it apart and get the part # off the parts themselves...This way there is no guessing.

I always hated working on them. I never had the right part on the truck and always had to run to the warehouse...

The thing with kohler is they change part #'s when they add several parts in one bag... And that makes it confusing...
