shower knob dripping

Hi all,

I have a problem with a dripping shower knob. I've attached pictures.
The last one is the bare metal with the plastic knob removed.

So what parts may need to be replaced, and what are they called?

Thanks very much!

PS: The water is dripping from the base, the thickest part of this metal shaft.
It's got lime buildup, but I can remove that with vinegar and baking soda.
