Trying to figure out how to remove this kitchen faucet

My kitchen faucet broke and I picked a new one to replace it. I have not done this before but I did a little research and it seemed simple enough. I picked a new faucet as well as some new braided water lines. When I started to work on removing the old faucet I was a bit surprised. The sink sprayer has the big plastic nut on the bottom side of the sink but it did not appear that any of the other three holes (under the faucet) had the plastic nut that I was expecting. Instead, the middle hole has what looks like a brass colored box around it. Hopefully the attached picture shows enough. Can anyone help to point me in the right direction? How do I remove this faucet?

There should be a screw inside that square metal bracket that is holding the faucet to the sink. You may need to get flash light up in there to see it and a long screw driver. The other possibility is that the whole metal bracket will screw off.

Can yo get a better picture of the metal bracket?

This is as good as I could get. Perhaps that threaded piece comes through the bottom and the nut is what needs to be removed?
